Ingredients

  • Tofu (16 oz)
  • Neutral oil (1/2 cup)
  • All-purpose flour (1/3 cup)
  • Cornstarch (1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons)
  • Orange juice (1 cup)
  • Sugar (1/3 – 1/2 cup)
  • Tamari or soy sauce (2 tablespoons)
  • Rice vinegar (2 tablespoons)
  • Sriracha (optional, 1 tablespoon)
  • Ginger (2 teaspoons, crushed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tofu by pressing and patting it dry. Break into 1-inch nuggets.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, salt, garlic powder, and water until smooth.
  3. Coat tofu pieces in the batter evenly.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry tofu for 5-6 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. In another bowl, mix orange juice, sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, Sriracha (if using), ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch. Pour into a skillet and simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
  6. Add crispy tofu to the sauce and coat gently.
  7. Serve over rice or noodles.
