Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh jalapeños, sliced into rings
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fruit: Rinse strawberries and jalapeños; hull the strawberries and slice them. Cut jalapeños into rings, removing some seeds if desired.
  2. Make the syrup: In a saucepan, combine sugar, apple cider vinegar, water, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and optional red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer over medium heat while stirring until sugar dissolves.
  3. Simmer jalapeños: Add jalapeño rings to the syrup mixture; simmer for about 4–5 minutes until softened.
  4. Add strawberries: Gently fold in strawberries; cook on low to medium heat for an additional 4–6 minutes until they soften but retain some shape.
  5. Reduce slightly: Allow the mixture to simmer until glossy and syrupy but not too thick; cool slightly before jarring.
  6. Jar it: Transfer to a clean glass jar and let it cool to room temperature before sealing and refrigerating.
