Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk (warmed to 110°F)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Additional melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk warmed milk and a tablespoon of sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, remaining sugar, and salt to the yeast mixture; mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, half a cup at a time, then knead for about 2 minutes using a stand mixer or about 10 minutes by hand until smooth.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm area until doubled (about 2 hours).
  5. Punch down the dough and divide into 15-24 equal pieces. Shape each into a ball and place in an oiled baking dish.
  6. Allow rolls to rise again for 30-60 minutes until puffed up.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F and bake for 23-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Brush with melted butter immediately after baking.
