Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • Red and blue food coloring (for coloring dough)
  • Optional: golden star sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a stand mixer, cream together the room temperature butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes).
  3. Add eggs, vanilla extract, kosher salt, and baking soda; mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually add flour while mixing on low speed until just combined.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips evenly throughout the dough.
  6. Divide the dough into three portions: color one with red food coloring, one with blue, and leave one uncolored.
  7. Roll each portion into a long rope and press them together in cling wrap to form a log.
  8. Break off pieces into roughly 2-tablespoon portions; roll into balls and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for about 9 minutes or until edges are set; do not overbake.
  10. Allow cookies to cool briefly before decorating with sprinkles if desired.
