  • 1 pound flank steak (thinly sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing rice wine
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for cooking)
  • 1 bunch green onions (sliced)
  • Garlic and yellow onion (for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine water, Shaoxing rice wine, Kosher salt, baking soda, and cornstarch. Add flank steak and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Cook marinated beef in a single layer until browned on both sides; remove from pan.
  3. In the same pan, sauté garlic and sliced onion for about 30 seconds. Add white parts of green onions and cook for 1 more minute.
  4. Return beef to the pan, add sugar, soy sauce, black pepper, and additional rice wine. Stir well and heat through for another minute.
  5. Serve hot over rice or noodles, garnished with green onion tops.
