  2. In a bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. Cream softened butter and sugar in another bowl until smooth.
  4. Mix in the lemon zest, lemon juice, and eggs until well blended.
  5. Gradually alternate adding buttermilk and flour mixture until fully combined.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  7. Bake for 1 hour at 325°F (163°C), then reduce to 300°F (149°C) for an additional 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a rack; drizzle with icing once cooled.
