  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying

  2. Add eggs and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture; mix well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.

  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about one hour).
  6. Roll out the dough to about half an inch thick; cut into squares or diamonds.
  7. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry each piece until golden brown on both sides; transfer to paper towels.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving warm.
