Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then gradually sift in flour.
  3. Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  5. While cakes cool, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Sweeten with powdered sugar or vanilla extract if desired.
  6. Assemble by placing one cake layer on a serving plate, spreading half of the whipped cream on top, then adding the second layer and covering with remaining whipped cream.
