  • 1 prepared pie crust
  • 3 lbs tart green apples (Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. Roll out the prepared pie crust and fit it into a glass pie plate. Refrigerate.
  3. Toss peeled and sliced apples with lemon juice in a large bowl.
  4. In another bowl, mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, cloves, and salt; coat apples with this mixture.
  5. Pour apple filling into the crust and cover with a mixture of heavy cream and vanilla.
  6. Sprinkle remaining sugar on top and place on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes at high heat, then reduce to 350°F (176°C) for an additional 55–65 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool at room temperature for six hours before serving.
