  • 34 apples, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch slices (about 45 cups sliced)
  • ¼ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • optional: salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by mixing flour, granulated sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly, then add ice-cold water gradually until combined.
  2. Chill the dough wrapped in plastic for at least one hour.
  3. For the filling, combine sliced apples with brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Roll out the chilled dough into a rough circle and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Arrange the apple filling in the center of the dough circle and fold edges over gently. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
  6. Chill assembled galette briefly while preheating the oven to 400°F (204°C).
  7. Bake for 35-36 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
